The Gakuyukai - Science & Engineering Student Association is a voluntary student organization, independent of the Science Tokyo administration, consisting of all undergraduate Science and Engineering students.

As a student-led group, we will listen to students to develop and provide the support they need. The Gakuyukai will help keep club activities running smoothly, coordinate the Tokyo Tech festival (Kodaisai), give advice to address student concerns and requests in their day-to-day campus lives, and more. The Gakuyukai will also serve to amplify student perspectives to the administration and help create a better place for learning by making sure student voices are heard.
We Science Tokyo students are just as busy between lectures, experiments, and practical training every day – but we will work diligently to help our peers build deeper connections and enjoy a fulfilling campus life.

Three Core Pillars of Activities

The Gakuyukai provides support for the following three core pillars of activities:
  1. Students’ campus life
  2. School festivals
  3. Student clubs and extracurricular activities

Students automatically join the Gakuyukai when they enroll in an undergraduate program. Gakuyukai fees are a one-time payment due at time of enrollment, and cover costs for the entire duration of a program: 4 years for bachelor’s program students, or 2 or 3 years for transfer students. Gakuyukai activities are made possible thanks to membership fees, so we ask for each student’s understanding and cooperation.

Gakuyukai fees (ex. for a 4-year undergraduate program)

  Total: JPY 29,400

(breakdown)

Admission fee: JPY 3,000
Membership fee: JPY 20,400 (JPY 5,100 per year)
Tokyo Tech festival fee: JPY 6,000 (JPY 1,500 per year)

Science Tokyo itself will also continue as always to provide broad support for student life and extracurricular activities. The Gakuyukai fee supplements that support to empower independent, student-led efforts to contribute to enriching student experiences for everyone.
